Sunroom Features You May Want to Tell the Contractor

Home Improvement

There are many reasons to have a Sunroom. It adds functionality and protection to the covered area and furniture in it aside from creating more space. It may also be the easiest way to enhance your home’s aesthetics and market value.

But while you may leaving all the tasks to a reputable contractor you hired, it is best that you speak your mind to the contractor. What are the things you may want to be added? This is important to get the most satisfaction out of this new project in your home. It may not do you any good if you just keep silent in one corner. It is less costly if the features are included while installing the screens.

You may want the following features to your screened porch or sunroom.

Wider Space

If you won’t extend your porch for a few feet, you may feel that it has become smaller after the screens are installed. If you have some area to spare, it may be best to extend your porch a little bit. When the project is through, you will not regret that you told your contractor about. Of course, you can do more things with a wider sunroom.

With a wider screen porch, you can also put more items in it. Maybe a dining table for four can do. You can also think of bringing out one piece of your sofa to make more space in your living room. The height of the ceiling is also an important matter to point out.

Insect-Proof Floor

While one of our reasons to put a sunroom is to prevent insects from pestering us while we are on the porch, they may still be able to enter/ this is because the porch floor boards may have shrunk through time, creating big gaps between then. These gaps will be enough for mosquitos, ants, bugs, and gnats to enter. Talk about this to your contractor about how the problem can be solved.

Ceiling Fan

With screen all around your porch, you may not have free-flowing air. You need to have a ceiling fan or a wall fan. Telling this to the contractor beforehand will allow them to plan the wirings and the placement of the fan and switch for more convenience.

Lightings

While a screen porch is beautiful sight during day time, it will be more attractive at night when all the lights are turned on. Talk with your contractor about the preferred light you want to be installed in your sun room. You should also point out where electrical sockets should be placed for appliances that you will soon be placing in sunroom.
